Fairview Gardens is that most wonderful blend of a florist, a greenhouse, and a garden shop combined into one happy venture. A place where one moment we’re helping a gardener select perennials for his shade garden and the next we’re sitting down with a bride to discuss her dreams about her special day. A place that just makes you feel good when you stop in to visit.

We’re located in Northfield, MA, a most beautiful town that has the distinction of being the only community divided by the Connecticut River, and bordering both New Hampshire and Vermont. Population is just under 3500 which gives us small town status with bodies to spare.

Fairview Gardens was founded by Raymond and Carolyn Parenteau in 1959. They built three greenhouses to grow a selection of annuals and vegetable plants that were sold during the spring months -the business would close for the season at the end of June. In 1991 Steve and Kathy Malsch purchased the business from the Parenteaus, and with their assistance, continued the tradition of growing top quality plants for the spring market. That summer renovations began on the old carriage barn to transform it into the Garden Shop and Flower Shop that it still is today. Improvements are always ongoing so don’t be surprised to be greeted by the sounds of saws, drills and hammers when you visit. In addition to all the building renovations, multiple display gardens and cutting gardens have been added to the landscape. Not only do these gardens add to the aesthetics of the grounds, but they are a wonderful source of inspiration and education for our gardening visitors. And better yet, they’re a wonderful source of flowers and foliage for our ‘Garden Touch’ arrangements.

Fairview Gardens is open year round with our hours varying depending on the season. In the spring we’re open 7 days a week, but start closing Sundays the first week of July. By early September we’re back to being open 7 days until Christmas. During the winter we’re closed on Sundays.

And finally, we would be remiss to not mention the wonderful folks who make up Fairview Gardens. Being a small business providing a variety of services necessitates that we all wear multiple hats. Salesperson, grower, gardener, designer, delivery person, and troubleshooter –we all participate in these activities. The result is a friendly and knowledgeable staff with the confidence and expertise to make your experience with us an enjoyable one.
